How to set up and start a comedy skit making group with low budget and actually start well: 12 steps

Comedy Skit making can be tedious especially if you are one of us! If you are one of the introverts, getting started with art can be a challenging thing,  in the sense that you will eventually not have enough backing, network or team to make the process easier for you.

However, I am going to provide you with a handy tips, step by step on how you can plan, prepare and kick-off your journey into the comic field of the entertainment industry on a low budget.

Below are the 12+ steps, to take and achieve that dream

Step .1 Getting the equipment:- Equipments required for movie creation, or simply skit-making might include, though not limited to:

a). Ring light,
b). Camcorder,
c). Camera,
d). Camera stand
e). Microphone (Sound recorder)
f). Editing tools ( eligible laptop computer).
g). Back up system

Step 2.  Work on your voice, pronunciation and speech.

The major tools any actor needs to perform on the stage is primarily a good voice, intonation, accent, tone and verbalization.  All these talks about how well you communicate through oral sounds to your audience, passing the message to them.
As you prepare yourself, also prepare your team members.

Step 3.   Work on your body language, shape and movement.

Maintaining a nice body shape, language and motion is an incredible skill towards building a skit-making venture.
Ensuring that you and all your team members have a nice body shape through eating well and exercising regularly, can create exiting and willing spirit within you, which is behind the creativity, which you want to present to the world.
If you eat well and Excercise, you will be more intelligent.

Your viewer might, from time to time be watching you or pay a very close attention to every little move you make, and how your body looks like while you do a certain thing.  You actually need an optimum fitness to start and get your comedy Career flowing perfectly.

Step 4.  Get your costumes ready.

Costumes are clothes, jewelries and all other wearables you will need in order to effectively pass the message you have and make your viewers to laugh away their problems.
Depending on your niche you should thing and deliberately figure out all the items that you will need from time to time, and buy them and keep so that you won't need to spend too much whenever you want to produce a new content.

Step 5. Get professional photographer
A lot of people have done comedy skit making for many years with a record of a significant success. This means they have nothing worthwhile to show for it. And this failure is due to the fact that they do not have a good filming photographer.
How well you can pass your message depends on the skill of your photographer or simply a camera man.

Filming requires a professional camera handler who understands camera angles, and shots.

A photographer knows very much about more than the director in that particular field, but still works under his direction, in order to capture the message.

They both need to dialogue, inorder  to brainstorm and determine the best way to carve out the information. A good camera man is the first video editor, he needs to first work on the video before forwarding it to the final editor. He organizes the scenes, shots and gets then ready for the professional editor.

Step 6. Get a professional video editor.
Just like the D.O.P (photographer) the editor should be someone who understands your niche, objective and his work in general.
Excellent editing can propel your channel to a level you never expected .
An editor should understand and have all the tools and resources that apply to your niche and make use of the necessary ones at a given time.
The digital and stage skills as well as the story and aims of the director.
His aim is to continue from the the director and the photographer and then bring the work to extreme professionalism.

Step 7. Get a dedicated delegate content creator.

Key to a successful work of art, is the inception of the whole idea. Starts from the heart of the story teller and grows in the heart of the skilled creator.

Every creative work starts on a book, or piece of paper.
The sketch, plan, or the written work says a lot about how perfect the work shall be in the final finished stage.

If you write down what you want to present, the director and other team of creators will better understand and bring out the best of their skills.
From the director to editor, each person needs to have a copy of the written work, so that they will all assimilate the data and understand the information.

Step 8. Build a strong team of actors

Depending on what your niche is, you need team of actors who will be dedicated enough to always be available for each production.

It isn't quite advisable to always depend on external or guest actors to create  every single piece of content.

Have a team of actors; shoot skits and make your message/niche understand before looking for a star to film with.

You need to shoot several contents, be good in what you do, so that stars will be attracted to you.

Steps. 9. Get a professional comic director.

A professional comic director I said.
Some comedians or should I say aspiring comedians think that shooting a piece of skit doesn't require a professional director. But that is quiet wrong.

Directors play a very important role in any form of film making.

But in comic video creation, it is quite extremely crucial that someone who is naturally glamorous in nature should direct the scenes. Let's move to the next.

Step 10. Set up a channel on YouTube or page on Facebook, Instagram or x.
Follow my blog page, as I will teach you how to set up a quality YouTube channel or create a kind of Facebook page that resonates with your niche.

You need to be someone who understands how to manage social media well.

And you should also know how to monetize your contents, understands google or meta algorithm, and analytics.

Read google or meta tips regularly so that you will know when they make a significant change that might affect your page or channel.

Understand your audience through Google/Facebook report, and determine what to create more, and how to publish them.

Step 11. Grow your channel by posting quality contents.

All you to do is to create a content idea that people would love to watch, and actually searching for it.

The first question you should ask yourself is this: if another person creates this content and post on social media, will I spend my time watching it, how long, will I stay before scrolling away? And will I like and subscribe to the channel?

Be very honest with your answer and if your answers is total yes, then you are free to go ahead and make your Creation. But your answers is near to no, it means you should rethink, and consider brush up on your creativity, and think out a better content. That's because there is a chance that you can post it and not get viewers. Because first few viewers, will trash it after watching.

12. Post your contents nicely; so that it will be recommend and monetized.
Finally, how you post content says a lot about how far, or popular it will go.
Posting nicely, helps you to get many views at the first few hours of appearing online even if YouTube didn't recommend your content early enough.
Getting many viewers initially increases your chances of getting traffic and recommendations.
You can share on you social media pages or profiles, or WhatsApp in order to get first few views from your friend, whom google will ask to rate the content, the review they gave determines if google will recommend it to other people or not.
There are also other ways through which your content can get traffic other than the recommendation. These are: YouTube search:- if your audience already know about you, they can search you, or your 'keyword', which relates to you your content topic.
Homepage, and other(Whatsapp, x, social media, etc.)

I have another post of how to publish your content nicely, so that your content will go viral on YouTube.

Conclusion:

What you should also know about building a skit-making group is that, it will take commitment; you first, and then your 'willing team of actors '. Their zeal is required, so that their can be available anytime for new content and as well give you their best.
