Learning new skills and developing those you have. Here are steps you should follow to attain greater height as a skilled entrepreneur.
1. Start building yourself now
Don’t wait to think it front and back before you do it. A smart question of a smart person is: “Is it legal?” If you take immediate action on those things you should do, you won’t perform below your ability; you won’t lose your desire, change your mind, or develop self-doubt.

2. Make self-development a habit — you are what you repeatedly do
We are not what we do at times; we are what we do day-in, day-out. So if you want what you're doing to enter your DNA, do it every day — no matter how little. It can be boring, but:
- If you don’t feel like writing, beat your chest at midnight and say: “I’m a writer and writers write.”
- If you don’t feel like running, remind yourself: “I’m a runner and runners run.”
Whatever you want to be very good at, the solution is to do it daily. Don’t start too big; add effort as you improve. Soon, consistency becomes your dear habit. [Atomic Habits by James Clear]
3. Improve your consistency to consistently improve
Consistency is built on hope — sometimes crazy hope. Imagine doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results. That’s the power of repetition. Even small, faithful actions build strength. As Mother Teresa said: “Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies.”

4. Become accountable to yourself
How responsible are you for your choices, actions, thoughts, and behavior — versus external circumstances? If you believe you’re at least 95% responsible for your success (and only 5% depends on luck), you’re likely to succeed.
But if you blame others, situations, or bad luck, failure may follow. Accountability is both a mindset and a skillset anyone can learn. [Forbes: Accountability in Entrepreneurship]
To be truly accountable, master three skills: mindfulness, responsibility, and answerability.
5. Train your mindfulness
Being mindful means being present in what you do, knowing there will be results. It’s the ability to observe, record, and learn from your actions. Mindfulness builds emotional intelligence and prepares you for responsibility. Without it, accountability is impossible. [Mindful.org – Mindfulness for Entrepreneurs]
Responsibility means confidently owning both wins and losses. Accept: “I was in charge — even when things went wrong.” This honesty leads to real growth.
6. Be answerable — to yourself and others
No one outgrows mentorship. Even top CEOs have coaches. Answerability means giving clear, detailed explanations — especially when results are poor. It’s easy to take credit for success, but true leaders stand tall in failure.
Every high-performing business runs on accountability. It drives performance, dedication, morale, and satisfaction. [HBR: The Value of Accountability]
Yet many Nigerian entrepreneurs ask: “Who should I be accountable to? I’m the boss!”
Why should you be accountable to yourself?
As the owner, you must track accuracy, punctuality, and project completion. Without self-accountability, incompetence creeps in. As William Shakespeare said: “We are not what we do sometimes, but what we do every day.”

Ask yourself brutal questions
When business gets tough — no sales, stagnation, frustration — activate your “automatic goal-seeking function” (Brian Tracy). Ask brutal questions to reveal truth and spark action:
- Why hasn’t this product sold in 30 days?
- What did I assume that wasn’t true?
- Who should I have asked for help?
- What one change would 10x my results?
These questions cut through confusion and force clarity. [Brian Tracy – Goal Setting Mastery]
